In the Advanced Program we will leave out much of the very early basics of the Regular Program and Intermediate Programs so we may concentrate and address the needs of the advancing goaltender. To enable a goaltender to achieve higher levels in his/her playing career we must set the ground work that will enable him/her to reach his potential. Skating and foot speed take on a whole new dimension in today's goaltending game. One of the emphasis being placed on today's goaltender is an exceptionally refined puck handler who has the ability to see the game from a whole new perspective. Seeing and reading the plays as they develop is something goalies of the past never had to contend with. They want the goaltender to come out and play the puck, read dump ins, interrupt plays, not only see your open man breaking for open ice, but hit him with the pass. Another facet of the game we will go into great detail in the Advanced Program will be advanced positioning and angling. There cannot be enough importance placed on the positioning and angling of a goaltender. One part is knowing exactly where you are in your net at all times and within an inch; the other is reading exactly what the shooter sees and what his options are.
